Let me tell you a story about a 1,620-pound coffee roaster from Portugal. No this is not a really large Portuguese, this is a story about “Polo," our 15-kilo hand-built steel and cast iron Joper coffee-roasting machine!
We first met Polo online in August when we were starting our MORU Coffee business concept as it was roasting coffee in Vancouver, Washington, just across the river from Portland, Oregon. Like many online relationships, this one progressed to a first date when one of our associates visited Portland and drove to Vancouver to see it in action!
After video dating, we decided we were a perfect match, and the relationship got serious! We decided that Polo and MORU Coffee needed to be together in Denver. Polo was crated and trucked across the Rockies, arriving in Denver on August 30, 2016.
Polo vacationed in a warm climate-controlled private suite at Denver Storage Solutions for almost two months while MORU Coffee prepared a permanent home. On October 20, 2016, we welcomed Polo home to MORU Coffee’s space at 1900 South Quince Street, Unit D. Thanks to our good neighbors at George T. Sanders Wholesale Plumbing for forklift operations and our neighbor Drew for use of his trailer, everything came off without a hitch.
After connecting Polo up to the utilities, together we are happily roasting coffee in Denver! We are up to full production for your specialty coffee needs.
